Is agriculture an engine for economic growth in Africa? Benin is one of the many countries that now subsidize its agricultural sector in an attempt to boost local production. Most of its producers are made of smallhodler farmers. The President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Kanayo F. Nwanze, highlights how the government helps to increase domestic supplies and to link rural farmers to markets.
