HPR concludes discussion on GTP
The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) concluded its discussion the five-year Growth and Transformation draft Plan (GTP). Since its inception last December, the GTP has passed through a series of assessment by various sections of the society. This time, HPR took its turn and discussed the draft plan for the last five days in the presence professionals and pertinent government officials. In its final day session on Tuesday, HPR discussed the last three units of the ten-chapter draft plan which deal with multisectoral plans. These include gender and children’s affairs, youth and sports, HIV/AIDS, social security, demographic development, culture and tourism, science and technology, environment and climate change issues. In both the morning and afternoon sessions, professionals from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development presented the contents of the plans and made the venue open for questions. Members of the parliament raised various points as questions for clarity and comments, which were, then, entertained by the respective officials. The draft plan states that the strong public initiation towards abolishing poverty and promoting industriousness, which is gained as a result of the development activities in the last five years, could be taken as an advantage for the effective implementation of the plan. On the contrary, global financial instability and low level of local savings are mentioned as possible threats in the implementation of the plan. The house is expected to ratify the plan on Thursday.
