The AfCoP and South-South Cooperation: Meeting in Bogota

The strength of the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-MfDR) lies in its ability to link results practitioners from every corner of the continent. This exchange of knowledge between countries is something extraordinary for Africa. Without this community, the Malagasy Director for Budget would never have had such interesting exchanges with his Moroccan counterpart in such a short time. Without the AfCoP, Monitoring and Evaluation methods would never have been exchanged from Niamey to Dakar, and Kampala to Nairobi.

These unprecedented achievements are highlighted in the case study submitted by the AfCoP Co-Chairs to the South-South Cooperation Task Team. This document dwells on how the community’s activities provide a lasting and effective MfDR learning process and promote MfDR’s adoption by African governments. It also demonstrates the contribution of the AfCoP in terms of aid effectiveness through increased accountability of managers and ownership of MfDR by members. More importantly, the AfCoP stems from the concrete demand of its members. They are at its origin and they lead it today at every level.

With this knowledge in mind and thanks to my work with the community, I have the honor to represent the AfCoP at the High Level Event to be held in Bogota, Colombia, from March 24-26. I will specifically participate in a roundtable on the South-South Cooperation Platforms and Information Management across countries. This is an opportunity to further publicize the achievements of the community and learn from the experience of other countries. I intend to make use of my 23 year career at the Court of Auditors to participate in the discussions. My experience today as a Tunisian Senator and Chairman of the North African States Commission of the Pan-African Parliament will also help me to best represent the community.

In the days following my participation in this conference, I will be pleased to share with you what I have learned and exchanged there.
