Organizing South-South Cooperation with All CoPs on MfDR

Not only results are of utmost importance for development in Africa, but it’s also the case for most development organizations. To ensure a good and coherent work on Managing for Development Results (MfDR) all over the world, Multilateral Development Banks, Civil Society Organizations and partner countries are part of a same working group, the Global Partnership on MfDR (GP-MfDR), also known as Cluster E.

The latest meeting of this group was held on July 7 in Paris, France. Solomon Mhlanga, Nazifi Abdullahi Darma and I had the chance to participate in it to represent the AfCoP. This meeting was a great opportunity to analyse progress made on the various workstreams of the GP-MfDR which focus on strengthening MfDR culture, learning from capacity development for MfDR, implementing good practices on incentives for development effectiveness and improving reporting on results. At this meeting, development partners expressed strong support in favor of the AfCoP, but no financial commitments were made. They discussed with us how the AfCoP should be best coordinated and whether or not AfDB should take a larger role in the management of the CoP.

Most importantly, we participated in a Joint CoP meeting with the Latin American and Carribean Community of Practice, CoPLAC. The Asian CoP couldn’t attend the meeting. We updated each other on our respective work and decided to strengthen our collaboration. Specifically, a task team made of members of each CoP has been created. Ledule Bosch and I will represent the AfCoP as part of this group. We are currently preparing an action plan with our counterparts, which alos includes a joint CoP meeting.

Thanks Tayani, that is a brilliant comment and observation. Unfortunately, as argued by many scholars, and I concur, a lot of aid has gone more to serve adherents ideologies than nations it is purportedly meant for. But receiving government…
