Lesotho: Hospital Public-Private Partnership Heralds a New Era for Health Care Delivery
Lesotho's health sector faces daunting challenges:
- high poverty,
- low life expectancy, and
- the third highest HIV prevalence rate--23 percent for ages 15-49.
An innovative public-private partnership scheme--with the Government of Lesotho, Tsepong Consortium, IFC Advisory Services, the World Bank, and the Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid (GPOBA)--aims to create a lasting solution. A new referral hospital and three filter clinics will help ease the burden on Lesotho's health sector and improve access to health care services for about half-a-million Basotho.
