HPR discusses 7 out of 10 chapters of GTP

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) has been holding deliberations on the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) since last Thursday. During its 4th day deliberations on Monday, the house discussed the health, capacity building and good governance sections of the GTP. During its morning session, the house discussed the health section of the GTP. The discussion was preceded by a presentation on the section by professionals from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED). According to the professionals, the health sector development plan is aimed at improving societal health through delivering quality medical services. Increasing beneficiaries of family planning from 32 per cent in 2010 to 90 per cent, reducing child mortality from 101/1000 to 67/1000 and decreasing HIV infection rate from 0.28 per cent to 0.14 per cent by the end of 2015 are the major goals of the plan. Minister of Health, Dr Tedros Adhanom on the occasion responded to various questions forwarded by MPs. He said the government has committed itself to creating a healthy and productive society. During its Afternoon session, the House discussed the capacity building and good governance sections of the GTP in the presence of pertinent officials. The capacity and good governance section of the 150-page GTP lays down various aims and implementation strategies to enhance good governance, mass media and capacity building and sectors. Pertinent officials on the occasion addressed different queries raised by the MPs. Having deliberated on the remaining sections of the GTP, the House expected to endorse the plan on Thursday.
