Dauda Garuba is the Nigerian Program Coordinator for Revenue Watch Institute (RWI). He manages the Institute’s engagement with civil society partners in the Niger Delta, as well as provides technical support to the Bayelsa State Government on its Bayelsa Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiative (BEITI). Prior to joining RWI, he has worked in several places and capacities, the very last being as Senior Programme Officer in Governance, Security and Development (GSD) at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). He has an extensive work experience on Oil and the Niger Delta question on which his on-going doctoral degree thesis is focused. He had represented CDD on the Steering Committee of Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Nigeria between 2005 and 2007, and from July to October 2008. He was also National Civil Society representative on the Monitoring and Evaluation Team that collaborated with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to Nigeria’s President on the Millennium Development Goals (OSSAP-MDGs) to assess projects financed through the Debt Relief Gain (DRG) under the 2006 Budget.

Dauda has a West Africa-wide work experience on policy-oriented research, capacity-building and advocacy on questions of democratic governance and development, Peace and Security, and Security Sector Reform (SSR). Besides participating in numerous local and international scientific research and special missions, Dauda is also widely published in reputable local and international research outlets. He is co-author of two books titled: Democracy, Oil and Politics in the Niger Delta: Linking Citizens’ Perception with Policy Reform (2007) and Governance and Institution-building in Nigeria: A Study of the Independent National Electoral Commission - INEC (2008 & 2010). He is a Laureate/Fellow of a number of reputable institutions, including being the Council for the Development of Social Science Research Council in Africa (CODESRIA) Laureate, Harry Frank Guggenheim/African Association of Political Science Young Scholar and the Graduate Institute of International Studies (Geneva) Young Scholar.

Dauda’s research and development work interests are in governance democracy and development, political economy, peace and security, security sector reform and transparency and accountability in natural resource management.
